In Support of Ben Mora
Yesterday, a hack “journalist” by the name of Scott Bixby wrote a hit piece on Ben Mora, a regional field director for the Bernie Sanders campaign. Within an hour of Scott publishing the article to the Daily Beast, Ben was fired from the Bernie Sanders campaign.
Ben Mora wrote mean things, sure. Like, really mean things. However, it was on his private account. And, they were fucking funny. Like really funny. The thought of Hillary Clinton being catapulted off the Earth is funnier than anything SNL has done in almost five years now. Klobuchar does have a weird name. These are jokes, Scott. It doesn’t mean Bernie Sanders supports a policy that would send the friend of Epstein and Weinstein into space (although I would support that if given the option). Additionally, you cannot earnestly tell me that Ben is a homophobe. Ben is gay. You can be gay and make comments about other gay men, it’s literally part of their culture. I mean, I’m sure the diary you keep next to your bed has tons of shit-talking in it. I wonder if you’d be fine if I came to your house, and tweeted pictures of your diary for the world to see. I’m sure you’d be fine, considering your family just bought you a place in Dumbo for a cool $1.2 million.
So, let’s talk about Scott Bixby for a little bit.
Scott Bixby attended the Phoenix Country Day School, a private K-12 school in Arizona that costs a whopping $25,000 a year. From there, he would attend Hamilton College, a small liberal arts school outside of Utica, New York. After Hamilton, he would go on to study at Columbia University. The jury is still out as to where he got his doctorate in tattling.
According to his LinkedIn, Scott would worm his way through Editorial Internships post-graduation, interning at GQ, OUT Magazine, and Esquire. After these roles, Scott decided to take his hoity-toity liberal arts degrees and begin his foray into political journalism. This meant positions at The New Republic, Guardian News, and of course, The Daily Beast.
Scott would write incredibly brave and important articles in his time at the Guardian, including the one about Hillary going on a hike after losing the election to Trump in 2016. Just riveting stuff all around. In case you were not aware, The Daily Beast is owned by the media corporation InterActiveCorp. Chelsea Clinton sits on the board of IAC and has made $9 million since 2011 from this position. Isn’t nepotism wonderful?
So, I’m sure you’re thinking at this point, who cares? Well, the issue is that you should. Ben Mora, a gay POC, was working for Bernie and expressing his thoughts on the other candidates privately. This was not him harassing or targeting candidates under the name of Bernie Sanders. This was him venting on a platform for what he thought were people he could trust. Ben worked hard for a candidate he believed in and didn’t deserve to lose his job over his private account. Scott Bixby represents everything wrong with the current state of the Democratic Party, the media, and our culture.
The reason people like Bernie Sanders is not because his supporters say mean things about other candidates. People like Bernie Sanders because he wants systemic change. He wants everyone to have healthcare. He wants to uproot the establishment Democrats that have truly poisoned the party. Civility isn’t going to defeat Trump.
Scott, what did you hope to gain from this? People don’t respect you any more for this. Sure, wine moms whose minds have been addled by MSNBC agree with you. Then again, I doubt you give a shit what the working class thinks. You represent the Democratic party in the worst way. You are elitist. You have been given everything and yet act like a victim. You care more about civility than actual societal progress. You give queer men a bad name. You are not a journalist; you are a tattletale. People like you make my skin crawl. Your support of Buttigieg, an ineffectual liar, whose entire identity sounds like a Mad Lib, is hysterically on the nose. You both use your queer identity to masquerade as a progressive, when in fact you are a neoliberal.
